A digital representation of the cancer experience in the age of covid
Cancer is a life changing experience for the whole family. Cancer in the age of COVID-19 presents a whole new set of challenges and barriers uniquely paired with new ways to connect, gather information and seek support.
Many individuals living with cancer have had changes in their treatment plans, are experiencing further isolation and anxiety, and are living in a world where being immunocompromised has a whole new meaning. Caregivers are carrying even more responsibilities – holding onto jobs, caring for children at home, and isolating themselves to protect their families. Children who rely so much on the normalcy of school and peer interaction have been home with little routine, and surrounded by the unique stressors facing their parents.
And yet at GCW, all of these people have been coming together over Zoom – connecting through our support groups and gaining strength and coping skills in our wellness programs. It is a new world in which we’ve discovered how important community can be.
WHAT IS THE GILDA’S CANCER COVID PROJECT?
We are asking our members to share a photo (taken by you or of you) you feel represents your experience as a person living with cancer, a caregiver, a child or teen, or someone who is grieving. GCW will compile the photos into a digital collage representing the cancer experience in our world right now.
The Gilda’s Cancer Covid Project
is an opportunity for our members to creatively show the unique experience of being impacted by cancer during COVID. Our hope is for this project to be yet another vehicle for connection
within our community, while increasing awareness
around the impact of Covid and cancer beyond our community.
Please complete the form linked here
