Bilingual Social Worker

(temporarily remote)

The mission of Gilda's Club Westchester (GCW) is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. Gilda’s Club Westchester creates welcoming communities of free support for everyone living with cancer – men, women, children and teens -- along with their families and friends. Gilda's Club offers individual and family counseling, special time-limited support programs, lectures and workshops, and social events. Our innovative programs are an essential complement to medical care.

We are currently seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish), licensed social worker for a contracted position of 8-10 hours per week to offer both clinical services and outreach to the Spanish-speaking community. The Bilingual Social Worker will interface with Gilda’s Club participants, staff, adjunct staff, volunteers and the professional community. This individual assists in facilitating key components of the GCW program, including meeting one-on-one with individuals new to Gilda’s Club and facilitating support groups, workshops or other time-limited programs for Spanish speaking individuals. The Bilingual Social Worker will initiate outreach efforts to Spanish-speaking communities by introducing GCW programs to community organizations, hospitals, oncology practices, and cancer-related organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Meet one-to-one for initial meetings with Spanish-speaking participants new to Gilda’s Club. This includes individuals with cancer, caregivers, and those who are bereaved. Conduct a clinical assessment (which includes a distress screening), and develop a plan of supportive care.
  • Facilitate at least one support group in Spanish for individuals with cancer, caregivers, or those who are bereaved.
  • Facilitate workshops or other time-limited programs in Spanish.
  • Participate in community outreach efforts and events, including representing Gilda’s Club at health fairs and other community gatherings. Build relationships with new referral sources, including hospitals, oncology practices, cancer-related organizations, and community organizations.
  • The Bilingual Social Worker will report to the Director of Outreach and Clinical Partnerships.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, or a related field, from an accredited institution and current licensure or certification required by state for the specific field.
  • At least 2 years of oncology social work experience in a hospital or community-based setting.
  • Complete fluency in Spanish.
  • Understanding of the cancer experience -- for those diagnosed, their families and the bereaved.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and commitment to the GCW mission, core values and program.
  • One evening per week may be required (until 7:30pm).
  • This is a contracted, fee for service position (8-10 hours per week). Compensation is commensurate with experience.
  • Travel within Westchester, Rockland and Fairfield counties is required for this position. Compensation for mileage will be provided based on the current IRS mileage rate.
  • All services will be provided virtually at this time until onsite services are able to be resumed.

Oncology Social Work Position

Part time, Evenings

GCW offers supportive, social, and educational programs, healthy lifestyles classes and resource and referrals. Our innovative programs are an essential complement to medical care.

The part-time Oncology Social Worker (OSW) will interface with Gilda’s Club participants, staff, volunteers, and the professional community. The OSW assists in facilitating key components of the GCW program including facilitating new member meetings, meeting one-on-one with individuals new to Gilda’s Club, providing short-term counseling, and group support/workshop facilitation. Utilizing his/her clinical oncology skills, the OSW will provide a quality program in full compliance with GCW policies and procedures. The OSW will report to the Oncology Social Work Manager.

A Master’s degree in Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution, and current licensure or certification required by state for the specific field is required. Preference for LCSW. Oncology experienced, counseling, group support facilitation and bereavement experience highly desired. New graduate with relevant experience will be considered. Compensation commensurate with experience. 8 hours per week with at least one evening is required. Position is in-person in White Plains, but some remote work is possible.

Responsibilities

  • Manage requests for membership information, facilitate New Member Meetings, schedule and facilitate Customized Membership Plans (intakes), and Distress Screens. Manage all associated follow up.
  • Facilitate new member meetings and associated follow up.
  • Coordinate new member group placement and start date with Oncology Social Work Manager; update group rosters and follow up with members regarding their participation in groups when attendance is inconsistent.
  • Schedule and provide short-term counseling and complete documentation in database.
  • Facilitate support groups or time-limited groups in the evening as needed.  Complete associated documentation in database.
  • Attend relevant meetings as schedule permits - staff, program, program task force, cancer coalition.
  • Optional - attend bi-weekly group supervision.  Clinical hours towards LCSW available.
  • Assist Oncology Social Work Manager by acting as a substitute for groups if needed both onsite and offsite when available.
  • Close the clubhouse at 7:45pm on scheduled days.
  • Potential to extend/expand based on Gilda’s Club Westchester needs.

Data Base/Website Coordinator

(Remote, Part-time, Independent Contractor)

The mission of Gilda's Club Westchester (GCW) is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. (GCW) is a community-based not-for profit creating welcoming communities of free support for everyone living with cancer – men, women, children and teens – along with their families and friends.

Reporting to the Sr Program Director, the Data Base/Website Coordinator will oversee GCW’s existing data base ‘gnosis’, and manage updates on the organization’s website. Training on the gnosis data base platform will be provided. This is a remote position, up to 10 hours per week, schedule is flexible.

Responsibilities

  • Utilization - maximize and expand use of data base in coordination with leadership team
  • Troubleshoot; coordinate with gnosis team as needed
  • Develop and run reports, surveys and program evaluations
  • Oversee zoom integration
  • Facilitate support groups or time-limited groups in the evening as needed.  Complete associated documentation in database.
  • Some data entry required
  • Update/manage website
  • Coordinate with website designer as needed
  • Support development team with back up data entry as needed

Requirements

  • Proven track record in data base coordination
  • Proven track record in website management
  • Competent in WordPress, Gnosis, Salsa or similar platform is preferred
  • Competent with Zoom
  • Ability to communicate with staff and respond to issues in a timely way
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good communication and organization skills
  • Undergraduate degree preferred
