Cancer has the ability to re-define a child’s identity in the eyes of others and to create feelings of isolation. Gilda’s Club Westchester’s extensive Children, Teens and Families Program offers education, social activities and support groups to children and teens who have cancer, have a family member living with cancer or have had some in their life die from cancer. Our program is designed to be a place for children and teens to learn, play, care and share, all while being supported by our professional staff and trained volunteers.
Kids’ Cancer Connections Group
An ongoing peer support group for children (ages 5-12) who have a family member living with cancer or have cancer themselves. This group uses art, games, stories and other expressive activities to help children feel safe to ask questions, express difficult feelings and share common experiences around cancer.
Kids’ Bereavement Group
An ongoing peer support group for children (ages 5-12) who have experienced the death of someone in their life from cancer. This group uses expressive activities to help children express their feelings and join with others who have had similar experiences.
Teen Cancer Connections Group
An ongoing peer support group for teens (ages 13-18) who have a family member living with cancer. The group not only provides support and understanding, but participants work together to plan support activities for the younger children at Gilda’s Club Westchester.
Family Time Events
A monthly themed social event for children, teens and families. Past events include Magic Night, Beach Bash, Gardening at Gilda’s, Family Wellness Day, Kids’ Comedy Night, and Kids’ Carnival. There’s also Noogiefest, our annual Halloween party. These events are always open to the public.
