The 5th Annual Women’s Tennis Classic and Wellness Symposium held on Tuesday, July 15th at Sunningdale Country Club was a tremendous success — over the last five years this event has raised nearly $60,000 in support of our mission! This year, 50 women took time out of their busy schedules to join us for a day focused on camaraderie, fun and wellness. The morning began with a friendly round robin competition; afterward the women enjoyed a luncheon, which featured a shopping boutique and panel discussion on “Being Proactive — What Can I do to Lower My Risk of Cancer?”
During the luncheon, Gilda’s Club Westchester Co-Founder Susie Wang shared her personal experience of being a two-time breast cancer survivor, and how she and Co-Founder Robin Poses Markell came together to start Gilda’s Club Westchester, with the help of their family and friends. Symposium panelists Caren Greenstein, MD, Julie Monroe, MD and Randy Stevens, MD discussed the importance of a healthy lifestyle, early detection and knowing one’s family history as ways to reduce cancer risks, as well as recent advancements in cancer screening tools. Participants followed up with a range of questions related to their own family history and personal experiences.
A special thank you to everyone involved in making this day so special from start to finish: Event co-chairs Cindy Musoff and Gerri Sommers; panelists Caren Greenstein, MD, Julie Monroe, MD and Randy Stevens, MD; speaker and co-founder Susie Wang; Designs that Donate and Yaffa Activewear for donating a percentage of proceeds; photographer Mariela Melamed; and A & L Bake-A-Licious for their delicious cupcake favors.
