On Monday, June 3rd more than 200 people from all over Westchester participated in the Fourth Annual Gilda’s Club Westchester Mah Jongg Invitational at Willow Ridge Country Club in Harrison, New York. Whether they came to play, learn, have lunch, or shop at our first-ever Mah Jongg boutique, everyone enjoyed an afternoon of fun and camaraderie in support of our mission to provide free emotional and social support to anyone touched by any type of cancer in our community. This year’s event was a huge success, raising more than $60,000 for Gilda’s Club Westchester.
Co-Chairs Wendy Kleinman and Jodi Shapiro created this event with the intention of honoring their mothers, Sandi Schneider and Joan Blieberg, both of whom passed away from cancer and shared a love for the game of Mah Jongg. Wendy and Jodi spoke at the Invitational and were amazed at how this event has grown each year. Gilda’s Club Westchester Teen Ambassador Lauren Ciubotaru shared her personal story about her father’s battle with pancreatic cancer and how Gilda’s Club provided a place for her to be open about her experience with other teens that were able to relate to her experience.
